This resonated with how I've been feeling lately, in a world full of information, words, pictures, videos and so much more, the reality is that we don't know so much about who we are and what surrounds us.

100%, too much inspiration doesn’t necessarily mean it’s good inspiration

Thanks for writing Mary. I always enjoy your work. However I disagree on the point you made about the relationship between "self" and "Individuality". Culture is obsessed with "Self" as it is and we collectively look inward for the answers. Self-love, Self-care, meditation, therapy culture, etc. Culture as flattened and we are taking a page out of same playbook which is on full display here on Substack. It's just memetic behavior at this point. IMO, individuality today really means living for others, it's the only way. Your a generous soul with a sweet heart and i have always loved your posts.

Thank you Paul!! Such kind words. You’re very right, I think ‘self’ is more about nurturing the unique part of yourself but it’s become such a selfish performance. I just wish people were unapologetically themselves, even if it was strange or unfit in today’s culture. I wish there were cooler people. Thanks for your comment!

that’s a very good point. i fear people can’t really be themselves because the following/audience, views, etc. mean too much to them. i’m a pleaser and fall victim to this from time to time. it’s the same reason why i am not giving my kids phones until their done w/ high school. it makes me sad.

This was so fun to read, especially the 'we need real, weird people part'. We need to normalize not being perfect

“You don’t need a Pinterest board, you need a notebook and a mirror.” So that kinda hit deep. I loved every word you’ve written and omg so many people in society have forgotten about it and i read something recently about the phone as a second body. whereas the phone is the second body. it feels as though there are two versions of the self that exists, the curated, perfectly composed self and the messy, raw and unfiltered self. i loved this xxxx

Thank you for commenting. I definitely don’t see a problem with using Pinterest as a way to explore what you like I just don’t believe we should use it as the only source. Something has to come from within
